In many countries in Asia, it is a commonly observed practice to find poorly performed electroencephalography (EEG) with badly written reports. As EEG is not a rapidly growing science, it is not a common subject in the usual neurology congresses; thus, EEG is not receiving the attention that it deserves. Despite the lack of glamour, EEG is an important old skill that should be taught well in all neurology training programs. It requires interactive coaching by competent trainers over an extended period with guided reading of hundreds of EEGs. Unfortunately, this is often not the case in many of the training programs in Asia today.
A comprehensive EEG text is also an essential tool for basic reading and reference in EEG. I am glad to see the recently published book edited by Radhakrishnan, Murthy, and Rathore, all being outstanding EEG educators.
The coverage of the subject in this book is comprehensive, up-to-date yet clinically relevant. The approach is practical for clinicians; written in a direct and easy to read style. There are many EEG examples and case illustrations, figures with colors, and tables that highlight the key points. The layout of the book and quality of the print are excellent. It is easy to search the subject of interest. The book is not too large and heavy and it is manageable with just slightly over 500 pages. The list price is affordable for the middle-income countries.
