We thank the author for taking interest in our review and bringing out further literature to update the recent reports of varied neuromuscular features seen in COVID-19. It is indeed fascinating to appreciate the speed with which literature of COVID-19 is accumulating and that within a short time after our manuscript was submitted more information has accumulated on the subject, which the author has collated. As the manifestations of this virus are still coming to attention and post viral events are possible, we shall surely see more literature in coming time.
Neurologists working with these patients are seeing Guillain–Barre Syndrome and data is emerging. The study by Finsterer et al. gives the data on GBS in those infected by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. This primary reference is from the recently published article in the Journal of Virology after our manuscript was published (Letter to Editor: COVID-19 polyradiculitis in 24 patients without SARS-CoV-2 in the cerebro spinal fluid. J Med Virol. 2020; 1–3). This was a study which itself depended on individual case reports. Authors quoted 23 references in their study, most of which have been published after our review was published (after the 15th of April 2020).
The incidence of muscle injury seems to be varying in available studies. Looking at the case series by Mao et al., skeletal muscular injury was seen in 10.7% of their subjects. Amaro Nunes Duarte- Neto et al. recently (in Histopathology, May 2020) published autopsy data of 10 COVID-19 positive subjects and found myositis in only 2 of their subjects. While we thank the author for gathering more data of neuromuscular involvement in COVID-19, we feel that the comment on the depth of our literature review is unwarranted as it does not take into account the perspective of time. The mushrooming data on COVID-19 and its varied neurological features is just beginning to pour in. There will be many review articles and case reports written on the neurological manifestations of COVID-19 before this pandemic is over.
