It is a great privilege for me to have been given the opportunity by Prof. Vinay Goyal, current Chief Editor of Annals of Indian Academy of Neurology (AIAN), to pen an editorial to celebrate the glorious 25 years of the journal. The journal has continued to thrive and has attained an enviable standard of publication of quality articles which have been widely cited. Indian Academy of Neurology (IAN) decided to publish a journal under the aegis of the academy to provide an opportunity to senior and junior neurologists as well as residents in training to highlight the clinical and basic research carried out in the country. With these goals, a beginning was made in 1997 and the first Editorial Board was formed and I had the honor of being invited as the Founder Editor [Figure 1]. The culmination of efforts led to the release of the Inaugural issue of the journal at the Sixth Annual Conference of Indian Academy of Neurology at Hyderabad, September 1998 [Figure 2]. In the message for this issue, Dr James F. Toole, President of the World Federation of Neurology, aptly mentioned that “the birth of a new journal is almost as exciting as seeing a baby born” [Figure 3]. I must confess that the editorial team experienced great pleasure at the birth of this baby on the Indian scenario.{Figure 1}{Figure 2}{Figure 3}

What has made the journal great over the years is because it included robust clinical and scientific data, focusing on the patterns, prognosis, and management of diseases seen in India, that are of great importance to its readership. The vast experience of the authors has significantly contributed to the popularity of the journal. The AIAN has provided extremely useful information and hence has attained a wide coverage in the country and abroad. Successive editors Prof. D. Nagaraja, Prof. Sanjeev Thomas, Prof. Satish Khadilkar, and the current editor Prof. Vinay Goyal have done a remarkable task in maintaining the high standard envisaged and have introduced novel ideas and concepts which have further enhanced the quality of the journal raising its visibility and reaching international audience [Figure 4].{Figure 4}

The open access policy of the journal is available within the country and internationally has enabled the scientific community to take advantage of this opportunity and enrich themselves with the information and knowledge as well as patronize the journal when considering publication of their articles.

It is a matter of pride and satisfaction that the number of submissions has shown a remarkable increase over time and hence the issues of the journal were increased from 2 to 6 in a year. Another milestone has been the steady ascent of the impact factor from 0.415 in the year 2010 to 1.383 in the year 2020.

I am confident that our readers eagerly wait to receive every issue of AIAN since it has become an outlet of rigorously conducted and relevant projects and studies. I am left with no doubt that pursuit of excellence with commitment and dedication will continue to be the banner of the future editors and the editorial boards of this journal.
